West Highland Crafts

Hi, I’m Alison. I’m originally from the south of England. After a career as a scientist in Histopathology, a highly technical and visually creative discipline, I, together with my husband, 6 guinea pigs and a puppy, moved to The Highlands about 15 years ago. I love Scotland, from its landscape to the colours and textures around me, and use these to develop ideas for my crafts.

I have always been creative: making my own clothes, knitting and enjoying embroidery. Once I moved to The Highlands I started making Tartan Bears for ‘Lochcarron Weavers’, and knitting for the ‘Hand spinner’ on Skye as my creative outlet. This got me back into textiles and exploring the wonderful yarns now available and fabrics, such as Tartan, Harris Tweed and batik cotton.

There are so many luxury yarns available now, space dyed in glorious colours which I can use to represent the colours and seasons of the landscape. I love combining colours and textures, I think that is my strength. The modern colours of the Harris Tweeds I particularly like and I mix them with beautiful batik cottons and luxury yarns to make accessories.

My mind is always full of ideas that I would like to try out. I hope you enjoy the resulting creations.
