Glengarry Silk Studio

Hi, I’m Ross. Creating beautiful items from silk is an absorbing craft. I first started silk painting 40 years ago, when I learned the skill in Belgium. For many years, I was not able to practice my skills, as it requires a dedicated space and some quite technical equipment.

Having moved to a most inspiring Glen in the Highlands of Scotland seven years ago I have built a beautiful studio, dedicated to silk painting. I take inspiration from the beauty, the colours and the views around me. I love the flexibility of painting on silk. The colours can be bold and vivid or delicate and gentle. And there are always more techniques to explore.

One of my biggest challenges was to be able to build a steam fixer to ensure that the items I paint are made colour fast. I still wear scarves that I painted 40 years ago, and the colours are as bright as ever!

Silk is often thought of as a summer item, but it is both warm and cosy in colder weather, as well as light and comfortable in warmer months. A beautiful, natural fibre, enhanced by an artist.

Shipping policy

Items are shipped via Royal Mail First Class post in the UK and dispatched in approx 2-3 days. International Orders are posted via International Standard. Shipping fees are per order with this maker.
