Patterns of Light

Hi, my name is Hannah, and I’m an artist based on the Applecross Peninsula in a tiny wee village called Arrina. I live with my partner Darryl, our son Connor, and our beautiful border collie Obi.

I am not a trained artist, I didn’t study art. I just came to it. My grandmother sat me down with a set of watercolour paints when I was a child and I found a love of painting landscapes, animals, and nature. I took on a business in Kishorn in 2014, called Patterns of Light. It was here I developed my skills, explored different mediums, and developed a real love for colour. I paint on slates and pebbles using acrylics. More recently I created a series inspired by nature and living on the coast, using watercolour inks, salt resist techniques, and acrylics when I needed to up the power of the colours. Some of my more recent work has included pen and ink drawing mixed with acrylic painting. Basically for me, anything goes!

I moved my business home to Arrina in 2020, and shortly afterward discovered I was expecting our wee boy Connor! So after a two year hiatus for motherhood, in 2022, I started getting arty again and attending local craft markets.

I make all my own cards here in my studio, printing and packaging them all myself. I also produce all my own Giclee Prints in between running around behind a toddler! In the future I hope to develop my skills further with trying some traditional printmaking techniques, and I also hope to someday be able to do all my own sublimation printing of my homeware range.
