Indigo Berry

Hi, I'm Michelle, the creative force behind Indigo Berry.

The beautiful Isle of Skye has been my home since 1990 and I share a cottage overlooking Loch Harport with my partner and two cats. Mind you, I did take the proverbial ‘long way round’ to get here! I was born ‘down south’ in England; spent my early years in Australia (as a Ten Pound Pom!); was a school kid in Birmingham, and then a student in Leeds. My background is in Art History and I worked for many years in Art Galleries in England before moving to Scotland. I have always been creative, even when I worked full time, and I took to jewellery making initially because I was too much of a coward to get my ears pierced. I couldn’t find any decent clip on earrings – so I made my own.

Fast forward many years, and in 2012 I launched Indigo Berry. In addition to the constant natural inspiration here in Skye, my creativity is also influenced by a love of celtic art, fairy tales, the colour purple, and my Art History background. I love geology and work with ethically sourced gemstones and fossils as well as vintage buttons from my grandmother’s button box. Each piece is ‘one of a kind’ simply because of the unique nature of my materials. For the last 3 years I have also been working with silver clay and each of my handcrafted silver creations are hallmarked at Edinburgh Assay Office.

When I’m not making jewellery or listening to Prince, I‘m being a family history sleuth and supping Earl Grey tea.

I bought a necklace for my sisters 70th birthday. She likes unusual jewellery and was thrilled by my choice. Beautiful !
