Twisted Thistles

Hi, I’m Lorraine, a farmers wife and mother of 2 boys. I have lived all my life in a small village by the mouth of the River Spey in Morayshire, Scotland.

I worked in banking for 37 years and my Mum was a seamstress so I grew up surrounded by fabrics and sewing. After my banking life my friend and I started making twisted ribbon scarves along with tweed capes and scarves using tweed from our local tweed and cashmere mill, Johnstons of Elgin.

My love of colour and beautiful fabrics mean I love to combine bright and bold with subtle tweeds for a stunning effect. After doing craft fairs for a few years where I loved to meet and chat to customers old and new the opportunity came up to open a little gift shop in the village of Fochabers called The Twisted Thistle.

My other pastime is silversmithing which I started 9 years ago making gifts for family and friends. I design and make jewellery in sterling silver and just love it when it comes to polishing a finished item and bring it to life. I hope you like my items as much as I love making them.

Orders are usually dispatched in 3-5 days and are sent via Royal Mail in the UK. International orders are sent via International Standard. Shipping is per order with this maker.
