Inverie Bee

Hi, I’m Jane, the maker of Inverie Bee jewellery and homeware.

I was born and grew up in Manchester. Since then I’ve spent time living and working in Liverpool, London and Lancaster returning to Manchester in 1998 to start a recruitment business, for which I still work part time today, remotely from the Highlands of Scotland.

I’ve always had a strong connection with art and for many years made my own cards using watercolour, acrylic inks and linocut prints. I also started making mosaics using glass tiles which is when I first became interested in glass. A few years ago I took part in a two day stained glass workshop and created my first piece. Following this I began making suncatchers, fridge magnets and jewellery using the copper foil technique.

My partner is originally from Scotland and we have spent many holidays in the Highlands and Islands with hopes of eventually living here. We had been told about Knoydart but only made our first visit when we came to look at what was to become our current home. In 2020 we moved to the village of Inverie, on the shores of Loch Nevis, on the Knoydart peninsular. As our home needed a lot of renovation before we were able to move in, I took the opportunity of having a workshop built in the garden so I’d have space to enjoy my creative endeavours. Glass had become my passion and, having acquired a jewellery kiln, I began creating enamelled jewellery. Enamel is powdered glass which I sift in successive layers onto copper, sometimes adding millefiori glass wafers, and fire in a kiln at around 820C. Because of the nature of the process each piece is original and unique.

I named my business Inverie Bee as I was living and working in Inverie and the bee is the symbol of Manchester. I appreciate how fortunate we are to be living here, when you’re surrounded by such beautiful landscape it’s hard not to be inspired.
