Claudia Knott Ceramics

Hello, I'm Claudia. When I was five, I liked to dig behind our school in Chagford, Devon for bits of old china, which I lovingly kept in old chocolate boxes, and I constantly made things out of anything I could find, bits of old fabric, springs, buttons, etc.

At school I discovered clay, this amazing material that could be bent into curves, cooked and held its shape, and as a child of creative engineers, ceramics seemed to fulfil the lot!

After a career in schools and museums teaching and playing with children, my imagination is still fizzing with new ideas and techniques to try. I use found bits and pieces to make impressions; experiment with mixing clays; create transfers from drawings; and enjoy hand-building weird and wonderful pieces, (and tug boats of course!)

I now live and work looking over the lovely Broadford Bay, where I can look out of the window of my garage-workshop and watch the Skye colours changing minute by minute.
