Claire Dorman

Hello! I’m Claire and I live on the Isle of Skye with its dramatic landscape that inspires the colours and textures for my knitting and weaving. I have been knitting since I was a child, having been told by my Uncle who also used to knit (he was in the household cavalry and knitted his socks), that it would come in useful one day…

Knitting was my relaxation and wind down after a day of teaching, and now in retirement it has become a pleasure to knit for others. I like the feel of the yarn in my hands and the rhythm of the needles. It’s very soothing. This has progressed into weaving using a rigid heddle loom where I experiment with colours and shapes and patterns. Tapestry weaving next!

I use quality yarns, mainly Merino but also silk, llama and Shetland. This gives the final scarf, wrap, hat or shawl good stitch definition, drape, and shape, plus warmth and softness. I spend time finishing each item by soaking, blocking, sometimes steaming, to set the form, enable the pattern to be well defined and the yarn to bloom.

All items come with yarn detail and care instructions are attached.
