This bay leaf salt has a lovely aromatic flavour and can be added to recipes during cooking, or sprinkled over a dish as a flavoursome “finishing salt”. Bay is such an underrated flavour, often relegated to the background of a bouquet garni blend, but it has a unique, almost floral herby flavour which works well with both vegetables and meats, and the flavour can withstand long cooking without fading.
It’s made with Huntly Herbs own organic bay leaves, grown on land which has been organically certified for 25 years, harvested and dried carefully to preserve as much flavour as possible.
The herbs are blended with a coarse Sicilian sea salt, harvested traditionally by hand from a WWF managed nature reserve, producing a clean, natural product.
The fresh leaves are mixed through the salt during the drying process, which means the full flavour of the herb is absorbed by the salt itself – rather than simply blending dried herbs with salt.
This salt is available in two grades – either a coarse texture ideal for use in a salt grinder ( or if you prefer the bursts of flavour provided by the larger salt crystals, simply use it as it is); and finely ground if you prefer to sprinkle salt without the large crystals.
