West Highland Leatherwork

Hi, I'm Gary, the maker behind West Highland Leatherwork which operates out of a small home-based workshop in the village of Arisaig which, as may be guessed, is on the West coast of the Scottish Highlands, overlooking Arisaig Bay and the Small Isles. The workshop is open to visitors.

I trained under the Master Saddler of the Cumbria School of Saddlery and, in addition to the items shown here, I'm happy to accept commissions for bespoke items or offer training courses tailored to an individual’s requirements.

Each product is made of high-quality materials and these are complemented by the time-honoured techniques used in their creation. Leather is long-lasting and has a timeless charm which, with a little care, will age beautifully and gain in character as it does so.

All of the pieces produced here are individually crafted with hand tools, using traditional artisan skills and techniques.

As leather is a natural product, every handcrafted item will show marks such as growth and creases which, I feel, adds to the unique character of each piece.
