Pillywiggin

Hi, I’m Sandy and I live by the busy harbour of a small village on the coast of Moray.

As a child I grew up amongst a family of 'makers' my parents loved ballroom dancing and I have fond memories of my mum making beautiful gowns and both of us surrounded in mountains of colourful nets, floaty fabrics and sparkling sequins... watching her create those beautiful gowns was the best feeling ever and sewed a creative seed in my mind that continued to grow throughout my life.

Now I consider myself a true 'maker' my world is filled with creations inspired by the love of colour, fabric, texture and form that I have never lost. Nature, animals and especially birds, the odd and quirky, an endless source of inspiration. Sometimes it only takes the smallest thing and my imagination runs wild, a Seagull on a chimney, a Heron in the harbour, something I see online, will see me running to my studio to begin something new!!

I work mostly with polymer clays and sometimes Air dry clay for my figures and fairies and use pure silks and antique laces which I sew by hand. I needle felt my birds and animals too (a long process but a special technique that creates such a lifelike texture) I use many different types of wool, from Shetland sheep to pure Mulberry silk roving. I feel so blessed to be able to combine all these mediums and create the wild life I see along the coast and woodlands of Moray.
