Joanne Simpson

Hi, I'm Joanne. My Artwork interprets what I have discovered all around me, in several different styles and formats. I am inspired by the places I visit, memories I have, animals or objects I have collected and photographs I have taken. I predominantly paint landscapes, natural forms and made up scenes incorporating animals and flowers.

My style tends to be quirky with an emphasis on pattern and texture. My main mediums are acrylic or watercolour paint, or coloured pencils. I am drawn to strong bold colours.

From an early age, I was artistic spending a lot of time drawing or painting. I had a love of animals too so it was always my intention to work within a creative role or with animals or children.

I chose the creative route and completed a BA(HONS) Degree in Surface Pattern Design and Textiles. Prior to this, completed a BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design and A level in Art.

I gained some freelance design work for a gift company and textile company for a while and also painted my own pictures. I would do this on evenings after working in other job positions such as a shop, hotel and nursery.

In 2012 I decided to go self- employed full time as an artist and cleaner for private houses in the area. I was lucky to move to Wester-ross in 2014 where I have continued to do this and dog walking/pet minding. These characters often feature in my work.

My main intention is to hopefully create artworks which would brighten moods or resonate with the viewer in some way. I am very lucky and fortunate to be living in the Scottish Highlands so my appreciation is demonstrated through my work.
