Living in the Isle of Skye, the maker is surrounded by coastline, and the inspiration for these ‘one of a kind’ earrings came from shoreline wanders on the sand and rock pools near Dunvegan. With its association to the sea, the gemstone aquamarine was the perfect choice to complement the textured handcrafted silver, making these the ideal earrings for channeling your inner selkie. Not surprisingly, aquamarine is the birthstone for Pisceans, as well as being a traditional gift for 19th wedding anniversaries. Contrasting the soft blue-greens of the aquamarine, the maker has added a stud of deep blue of lapis lazuli, considered a stone that marks friendship.
To make these earrings, the maker used silver clay which she textured, cut, sanded, dried and drilled. Once ready, they were popped into the kiln for firing and during this process, the binder in the clay is burned away to reveal the sterling silver. Before adding the gemstones, the textures were enhanced with liver of sulphur and finally the earrings were hallmarked at Edinburgh Assay Office, guaranteeing you their 925 silver content. 925 Sterling silver throughout.
Designed and created in the Isle of Skye. These come gift boxed along with information about the silver making process and the gemstone.
