A stunning great egret standing 53 cm tall and approx 50 cm wide, a one of a kind, made entirely by hand with a single barbed needle, there is a wire armature inside and over 100 feathers on the wings and tail, each one hand felted, starting with a base wool and then a layer of pure silk fibre needle felted to the base wool; a long process but worth the time it takes to give each feather such a realistic look. The body of the egret is needle felted in a similar way, starting with a core wool which is stabbed thousands of times to reach the required size and shape of the bird, at this stage the top layer of pure mulberry silk fibre is added using the thinnest size felting needle which catches the fine fibres and roots them into the core wool...the beak is made with polymer clay and the eyes are glass. The beautiful little fairy measures approx 16 cm and is made with a wire armature and polymer clay limbs, she is dressed in a green organza fabric dress and wears a pretty headdress made from tiny handmade flowers. She has handmade eyes and all painted with genesis heat set paints. The driftwood base measures 59 cm.
